W8 – Managing for Butterflies on Arnside Knott

Tuesday 9th July, 2019 at 10:30 am - 2:30 pm

Free
High Brown Fritillary
A walk by Chris Winnick.
Chris is well known as Chair of the Arnside and District Natural History Society.  He is also a Trustee of Butterfly Conservation and Chair of BC’s Cumbria Branch.
He will lead a walk over Arnside Knott looking at the butterflies and how the site is managed for priority species, such as the High Brown Fritillary, which hopefully will be in flight on the day.  Scotch Argus is another scarce species which breeds on Arnside Knott, although this walk will probably be a little too early in the season to see any.
The walk will begin at 10:30am and take approximately 4 hours.  It will involve the ascent and descent of some steep terrain over ground that is rough in places.  Bring packed lunch, walking boots, drink, waterproofs, sun hat, etc.
Sorry, but dogs are not permitted on this walk.
