21-10 Lichens of Warton Crag

Saturday 9th October, 2021 at 2:00 pm

A close look at the lichens of Warton Crag with Allan Pentecost. Allan published his first article on lichens in 1969. He is currently Cumbria’s county recorder for lichens and  is a former president of the British Lichen Society.

This event aims to provide an introduction to lichens of the AONB, with some background on the history of lichenology in the area, the importance of lichens in the environment, their diversity and methods for examination. On the walk, we shall look at lichen on the rocks around and above the quarry.  If you have a 10x hand-lans, you may find it helpful to bring this with you on the walk.

The walk will commence at 2pm and will last about two hours.

This event is NOT suitable for dogs.
