Come and join the hunt for Brown Hair-streak eggs!
Our reserve at Coldwell Parrock has the honour of being the site of the first recorded sighting of Brown Hair-streak butterflies in the recent era. Since that first record in 2011, the butterfly has been spotted at various locations in Gait Barrows and is known to be spreading onto other parts of our Coldwell reserves.
Volunteers are invited to help with a detailed search of the blackthorn bushes of the Coldwell Horseshoe for the eggs of this rare butterfly, in an attempt to find out how well established our local population has become and how far it is spreading. Winter is an ideal time to conduct this survey, as the eggs are more easily spotted whilst the blackthorn is bare of foliage, so do come along and help us to hunt!
NUMBERS ARE LIMITED at this event. To register an interest, please contact the organiser, Lynne Farrell by email.
Participants should bring hand-lens, notebook, drink (preferable a warm one!) and light refreshments. Please also wear suitable warm
clothing as we don’t move very quickly whilst searching for eggs!
