SUMMARY:Spring Lecture: Lee Schofield "Wild Fell: Fighting for Nature on a Lake District Hill Farm"
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to be able to announce the return of our annual Spring Lecture! This year\, our guest speaker will be Lee Schofield\, site manager of RSPB Haweswater\, who will be talking about the landscape restoration efforts described in his book\, Wild Fell: Fighting for Nature on a Lake District Hill Farm\, which was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the Conservation category of the James Cropper Wainwright Prize 2022. \nIn 2015\, England’s last and loneliest golden eagle died in an unmarked spot among the remote eastern fells of the Lake District. It was a tragic day for the nation’s wildlife\, but the fight for nature recovery had already begun. Wild Fell by Lee Schofield is the story of a landmark RSPB project to restore over 3\,000 hectares of the Lake District landscape.  In the contested landscape of the National Park\, change is not always welcomed; success relies on finding a balance between rewilding and respecting cherished farming traditions. Wild Fell is a call to recognise that the solutions for a richer world lie at our feet; by focusing on flowers\, we can rebuild landscapes fit to welcome the majestic golden eagle once again. \nThere will be an opportunity to purchase copies of Lee’s book after the talk. \nBooking is not necessary for this event. There will be a small admission fee of £1 per person on the door.

SUMMARY:Silverdale & Arnside Art & Craft Trail: A New Look at the AONB
DESCRIPTION:by Beverley & Scott Middleton \n10am – 5pm each day. \nSelf taught photographers Beverley & Scott have been taking photographs for over 30 years. Their love of travel\, walking and cycling stimulate their landscape photography; big skies and trees often feature in their images. \nBorn and bred in Yorkshire\, but having recently moved to Arnside\, they count themselves lucky to have some of the most inspiring scenery on their doorstep. \nThis selection of work on display features photographs that have been taken since moving to the AONB. \nBeverley has had 3 previous solo exhibitions\, at Lotherton Hall\, Leeds featuring macro flower work\, and at Bracken Hall\, Leeds and Wilf’s Café\, Staveley\, featuring panoramic landscapes.  Photographs by both Beverley and Scott have featured in past Landscape Trust calendars. \nFurther images can be seen on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Abitofskyphotography/

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL EVENT: Nature on my doorstep — every day throughout June
DESCRIPTION:With our main events all suspended until after the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted\, we are replacing our normal programme with a daily Virtual Event running on our Facebook social media channels. \nThis new virtual event is an extension to our “News and Views of the AONB” social media event\, aimed at those people who remain unable or unwilling to take advantage of any relaxation of the COVID-19 restrictions.  The event is intended to provide an opportunity for participants to share whatever marvels (or horrors\, even) of nature they may encounter in the close environs of their homes\, allowing everyone to participate fully and also continue to SAFE HOME; STAY SAFE for as long as they feel this is necessary. \nYou can participate in the event on our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/ASLandscapeTrust/) or follow and contribute to the event yourself on our Facebook Group (Arnside & Silverdale AONB Landscape Trust (Official)).  The latter is a closed group so you are not already a member of that group on Facebook you will need to submit a join request and wait for this to be approved before you will be able to see or contribute content. We will process all such requests as quickly as we can — usually within an hour or so\, often less. \nWe hope you will join us in this daily event and share your discoveries of Nature on your doorstep\, be they wonderful\, puzzling\, spectacular or simply every-day.  Whatever you’re encountering\, we’d love to hear about it. \nThis event is free and open to all.

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL EVENT: Daily News and Views from the AONB during COVID-19 — EXTENDED
DESCRIPTION:Owing to the popularity of this event\, it has now been extended for a further fortnight. \nWith our main events all suspended until after the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted\, we are replacing our normal programme with a daily Virtual Event running on our Facebook social media channels.  Each day (or as often as we are able to) members of the Trust will provide short summary of news and photos from our daily permitted exercise activity in or around the AONB\, for the benefit of those unable to visit the area at the moment.  We also welcome contributions to this event from anyone able to be out and about\, or merely with views or reminiscences of the area to share with others.  We recognise that this is a poor substitute for actually being in the Arnside and Silverdale AONB in the beautiful spring weather\, but we hope that it will help tide everyone over until these darks times are over and we can all get out and about again. \nYou can follow the event on our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/ASLandscapeTrust/) or follow and contribute to the event yourself on our Facebook Group (Arnside & Silverdale AONB Landscape Trust (Official)).  The latter is a closed group so you are not already a member of that group on Facebook you will need to submit a join request and wait for this to be approved before you will be able to see or contribute content. We will process all such requests as quickly as we can — usually within an hour or so\, often less. \nThis event is free and open to all.

SUMMARY:R2 – Families Day at Coldwell Horseshoe Reserves: Get Close to Nature!
